UDOT: Northbound turning lane closure
2:19 PM Wednesday, October 16, 2013You may have noticed that the second left hand turn lane getting onto I-15 going north has been closed permanently. Please see the response from UDOT below. If the truck stop causes a significant change in the traffic pattern, the HOA will get in touch with UDOT again.
I received your
question regarding the 400 South (SR-77) and I-15 Interchange. You are
correct the recent construction reduced the eastbound to northbound turn lanes
from two to one. This was done to allow for the reconfiguration of the
westbound to northbound on-ramp to two lanes. The need for two lanes
heading westbound was based on the sight distance from the railroad overpass to
the northbound on-ramp. The sight distance is limited and it resulted in
accidents between traffic slowing to enter I-15 and faster traffic coming over
the top of the hill. A traffic study was performed on the eastbound
left turn lanes and it was determined that one lane was sufficient for the
traffic volume entering northbound I-15. The study did not account for
future development, the truck stop, and may need to be revisited in the future
should the traffic volume significantly increase.
