This video is easy to follow. The only equipment required is a phillips head screwdriver. I spent about 30 minutes cleaning mine, and the first 10 minutes were just trying to understand how it got so gross in the first place.  The difference in suction is noticeable, though, so this was definitely worth it for me. Good luck!

Pool/Clubhouse

7:48 PM Thursday, November 14, 2013

The HOA boards for Five Star and Brookline have agreed to continue the pool and clubhouse rental arrangement through 2014. Beginning in 2015, the tentative plan is to discontinue our community-wide support (approximately $240/unit/yr). Brookline is considering the idea of allowing individual owners/residents to pay a usage fee, but there is no concrete information on that idea yet.Thank you to the owners/residents who provided feedback on this issue last month. If you have questions or would like to provide information, you can comment here or you can email us at fivestarhoa@gmail.com.

We are pleased to announce that there will be no increase in the association fees for 2014. Our community savings account has been growing over the past several years, and while we still have financial goals to meet, we are in a position that we can avoid an increase this year.

VACUFLO 101

11:55 AM Tuesday, October 29, 2013

Maintenance on the central vacuums is very minimal and can be done by the homeowner in no more than 10 minutes!

1. Empty the dirt receptacle when it is 3/4 full.
2. While the dirt receptacle is off, use a toilet brush (or something similar) to reach up from the bottom and through the cone-shaped piece of the unit. There is a grate at the top  that needs to be thoroughly cleaned. Using a toilet brush will help, but plan on getting a little dirty in this process.

If you are having problems that aren't resolved by these steps, call Al, a Vacuflo distributor, in Provo. He can be reached at (801)375-0130. Usually he can give you free guidance over the phone to fix the problem.

Apparently there is a lifetime warranty on these units for the original homeowner.

You may have noticed that the second left hand turn lane getting onto I-15 going north has been closed permanently.  Please see the response from UDOT below.  If the truck stop causes a significant change in the traffic pattern, the HOA will get in touch with UDOT again.

I received your question regarding the 400 South (SR-77) and I-15 Interchange.  You are correct the recent construction reduced the eastbound to northbound turn lanes from two to one.  This was done to allow for the reconfiguration of the westbound to northbound on-ramp to two lanes.  The need for two lanes heading westbound was based on the sight distance from the railroad overpass to the northbound on-ramp.  The sight distance is limited and it resulted in accidents between traffic slowing to enter I-15 and faster traffic coming over the top of the hill.   A traffic study was performed on the eastbound left turn lanes and it was determined that one lane was sufficient for the traffic volume entering northbound I-15.  The study did not account for future development, the truck stop, and may need to be revisited in the future should the traffic volume significantly increase.

This is communication received today from Love's regarding the truck stop that is going in across the street.

I understand the concern within your community. When you hear the term ‘truck stop’, it doesn’t conjure up the best images. If you’ve never been to one of our travel stops, I can assure you that they are anything but a typical truck stop. They are modern, clean, well-lit facilities. While we are a popular stop for professional drivers, about half of our stores are dedicated to the motoring public. We offer items typically found in convenience stores, as well as a variety of gift items. The Springville location will have a Chester’s Chicken and a McDonald’s. We work very hard to comply with environmental standards. We’re one of the best in the business in that regard. All of our stores will have security cameras throughout the facility. While we aren’t anticipating any problems, there are additional steps we can take to prevent crime. If necessary, we can hire 24-hour security. At the opening of every new store, we give a $2,000 donation to a local non-profit as our way of saying thank you for letting us be a part of your community. Every year, we do a company-wide campaign for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The money raised in your store goes to the CMN hospital in your area. This year, we raised a record $2 million. We have the best customer service out there, so I think that once you visit us after we’ve opened, you’ll be pleased with how friendly our staff is, many of whom will be hired locally.

As for the construction schedule, we’re looking at a mid-December open date.

Welcome!

The Five Star HOA board welcomes you! We look forward to communicating with you more often by using this blog. Follow us by choosing one of the links on the right.

Dryer vent cleaning is being scheduled soon. The service does not require access into your unit so you are not required to be home.

The Brookline property south of Five Star has been sold and development is scheduled to begin immediately. They anticipate building another 120 units which will more than double the size of Brookline.

Most Five Star owners probably remember that the clubhouse and pool belong to Brookline and that we in Five Star pay rental fees to Brookline for our use. These fees total approximately $20/month/unit and are part of your monthly HOA fee.

Based on both observations and feedback, the pool is often over crowded. With Brookline more than doubling in size over the next two years, the likelihood of Five Star residents having reasonable & enjoyable access to the pool is decreasing significantly. As a result, we are strongly considering but have not yet decided to stop support of the club house and pool on September 1, 2014.

We are asking for your feedback on this topic as soon as possible. We anticipate making a final decision on this by the end of this month. Please submit feedback or questions here on the blog or you can email us at fivestarhoa@gmail.com.
